Doc Martin and North Cornwall Tour
Full Day Tour, 1- 4 guests £425 additional passengers £50 per person per day.
During this full-day sightseeing tour, you’ll be picked up from your accommodation before heading along the North Coast of Cornwall. Before long we visit the unspoilt fishing port of Boscastle, with centuries of history. Here you can explore this little Cornish village and its fascinating harbour, and maybe visit the famous museum of witchcraft.
We now take a short drive, passing many buildings and locations used in the filming of television series, Doc Martin. One of the TV shows and films shot all around this region. (You can read more about the different television series and movies filmed in Cornwall in this blog post). Then we are on to Tintagel home to the 14th century “Old Post Office” owned by the National Trust. Also, don’t miss the clifftop castle and soak in the many legends of King Arthur.
Doc Martin’s Portwenn, a Real Place!
From here we will take a short coastal drive with spectacular views before joining the narrow roads to Port Isaac, the real Portwenn, where Doc Martin is set. Here you can wander the tiny higgledy-piggledy alleyways (ope) between whitewashed fishermen’s cottages, and visit the surgery to see if the grumpy doctor is at home. His home and surgery is actually called Fern Cottage, and is just one of the Doc Martin locations you can visit. Why not have lunch at The Old School, Portwenn’s primary school, workplace of Louisa, or ice cream at Mrs Tishell’s?
After a leisurely time exploring, you will be taken a little further along the picturesque coast to the now very quiet natural harbour of Port Quin. From this spot you can enjoy a walk up to Doyden Castle, Doc Martin’s Pentire Castle. You can also hear about the hard lives of past residents and why it’s known as the “village that died”.
Further Along the North Coast
Heading a little further along the coast–past the excellent surfing beach of Polzeath–you now have a choice of staying in the vehicle for the drive to Padstow, or alternatively you can take the foot ferry across the Camel Estuary. In Padstow you will have time to explore its beautiful working fishing harbour, full of yachts and little fishing boats. The mirror-like water surrounded by great shops, galleries and world-class restaurants.
